In January-September 2018, transactions in Azerbaijan’s non-cash foreign exchange market amounted to $17.7 billion, according to the monetary policy report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
During the same period last year, transactions in Azerbaijan’s non-cash foreign exchange market amounted to $12.71 billion.
During the reporting period, 84 percent of transactions in the non-cash foreign exchange market were conducted in US dollars, and 16 percent in other currencies.
Foreign exchange transactions in the intrabank foreign exchange market amounted to $11.8 billion, 51.2 percent of which were conducted in US dollars.
In the intrabank foreign exchange market, 92.6 percent of foreign exchange transactions were conducted with legal entities.
Some 66.9 percent of transactions in the non-cash foreign exchange market were conducted in the interbank market, while 33.1 percent were conducted in the intrabank foreign exchange market.
The transactions on the purchase and sale of foreign currency in cash by banks during the reporting period amounted to $5 billion. Of these, $3.9 billion or 78 percent were conducted in the US dollars.
