DA: Murderer released from prison, kidnaps woman in Salinas
A convicted murderer who was released from prison last year has allegedly struck again, this time, by kidnapping a woman in Salinas, the Monterey County District Attorney said Tuesday.
O’Neal Underwood, 63, beat and kidnapped a woman in Salinas on June 29, District Attorney Dean Flippo said.
Underwood was arrested on felony kidnapping and domestic violence charges. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail and his bail was set at $1 million.
Underwood served nearly 30 years in prison for robbing and murdering a victim in Contra Costa County in 1987. He was convicted the following year, and received a sentence of 25 to life in state prison.
Underwood was paroled on March 23, 2017 to Monterey County.
This is an active investigation, prosecutors said. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Salinas Police Detective Ruben Sanchez at 831-758-7927.
